The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has mandated that all U.S. airlines must confirm they are hiring pilots based solely on merit, in response to allegations of discrimination based on race and gender. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said that the directive aims to ensure that “pilot hiring is exclusively merit-based to fulfil its duty to provide the highest possible degree of safety.” Despite no evidence of unqualified pilots being employed by airlines, the initiative reflects ongoing scrutiny and pressure related to diversity within the industry.
