Whole Foods challenges union election results

Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market is asking the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to set aside the results of a union election in which the first group of employees voted in favor of collective bargaining. Whole Foods claims the union interfered by promising employees free transportation and a 30% wage increase if they unionized. The company also accused the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union of intimidating employees who supported Whole Foods. The election results still need to be certified by a regional director of the NLRB, which Whole Foods says it cannot lawfully do due to the agency’s lack of a third board member in Washington. UFCW Local 1776 called the company’s allegations baseless and accused the NLRB of tainting the process by restraining the company from communicating its views on unionization.
